When I write music, I typically write poems or lyrics and put them in a journal for later use. When I've written a chord progression or melody, I will refer to my journal for lyrics to add.
About a year and a half ago, I had an incident in which I was driving on the highway. I averted my gaze to a dead deer on the side of the road. When I looked back up, a live deer was running into the road towards me. I slammed on my brakes, but it was too late. The deer hit the back of my car and fell right beside the already dead deer on the side of the road. I am writing a song in their honor. I don't have chords or a melody yet, but here are the lyrics:
In one instant I am trying
to breathe and as I lie dying
is my dear brother lying next to me
It could have been anybody
Laid victim to the industry
that dumps cardon into the sky
Infrastructure that makes me die
The world's not for me anymore
The woods that the humans had torn
Why I must travel from the street
To which my fate I soon will meet
I saw the steam escape his skin
I will never pay for this sin
I know you didn't ask for this.
Herbovore hooves can't make a fist
Cursed to walk this scorched earth
Meek and marching back and forth
The only trees he sees
Segmented by these concrete seas
No grass for me to chew
No sun no morning dew
Everything must be new
For the men who have business to do
The world's not for me anymore
The woods that the humans had torn
Why I must travel from the street
To which my fate I soon will meet
I saw the steam escape his skin
I will never pay for this sin
I know you didn't ask for this.
Herbovore hooves can't make a fist
